Currie was 16 (as was Jett) at the time of joining The Runaways and was often likened to David Bowie in style and performance. There's no word there yet, but we'll certainly keep an eye out.
KRISTEN STEWART JOAN JETT MOVIE
How well Stuart does at Jett - and how the movie does as a whole - will be heavily influenced by who plays Currie. The film is said to center on Jett and Curie, and detail the rise and fall of the group who brought us, amongst other hits, "Cherry Bomb". The group disbanded amidst money and management disagreements. The ‘Spencer’ actress wore a Dsquared look consisting of a tuxedo blazer and ICON lace leggings. For those of you wishing to see Kristen in something other than Chanel, this might be a case of be careful what you wish for. Though The Runaways were only active for four years, they certainly made a mark in the industry and arguably paved the way for artists down the line. Joan Jett and Kristen Stewart co-hosted SiriusXM’s Town Hall on Wednesday (November 3) in New York City. During the time of the five-girl band, Jett played guitar and actually achieved further success in her own right after the band dissolved 1979. Sharing the screen with Kristen will be another rocker chick playing the role of Cherrie Currie, the lead singer for The Runaways.
Stewart can certainly pull off the look and is a fair actress by most accounts, but I'm going to find it hard to bridge her swooning Bella character in Twilight and the badass, ballsy rocker Jett, who went on to sing "I Love Rock and Roll." Of course, this is great news for Stewart and her career, but I wonder how fans of Jett and The Runaways will take this news. If you're scratching your head, I'm with you. It wasn’t the first time Stewart had played a musician, though she didn’t fare much better during her audition for Sean Penn’s 2007 survival drama “Into the Wild.” In the film, Stewart plays Tracy Tatro, a teenage girl who plays guitar after showing interest in Emile Hirsch’s character.I guess the dark air of Twilight caught the attention of music video director Floria Sigismondi, as the woman behind Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" video is set to write and helm a biopic on the first all-girl rock band, The Runaways, and wants vampire victim Kristen Stewart to take on the role of rock legend Joan Jett. 'Charlie's Angels' Trailer: Kristen Stewart Brings Spy Franchise to New Generation 'Seberg' First Look Unveils Kristen Stewart as 'Breathless' Actress and French New Wave Icon Jean Seberg I was like, ‘trust me, I swear to you I can do this.'” I just don’t work like that, I just can’t do it right now.’ … Very intimidated. I had to literally, imploringly, run over and tackle her and be like, “Yo! Trust me. She doesn’t make movies, I don’t make music, we do different things. “I saw her face kind of go like, ‘what the fuck?’ - we had spent all this time together and all of a sudden I was like dropping the ball or something. Why would I fully, fully, fully lean into this when we’re not actually here to capture it? It just felt almost like I was traipsing on something, or doing a lame impression just for the sake of it,” Stewart recalled. “At our first band rehearsal, we were playing Cherry Bomb and I just wasn’t committing to it at all because we weren’t shooting. During a video interview with Vanity Fair, Stewart recalled the first time she played The Runaways’ hit song Cherry Bomb in front of Jett. That much is clear from an anecdote she shared recently about playing Joan Jett during the 2010 rock biopic about the legendary musician. Though her offscreen persona can be a bit opaque - her reserved nature comes from years as a teen idol from the “Twilight” years - any actor as good as Stewart is obviously a deeply sensitive soul.
Anyone who was watched Kristen Stewart’s film work evolve over the years knows she is in possession of an extremely controlled talent capable of communicating great emotional depths.
